Re-Styled

by Jen on Friday, September 2, 2011

I don't know about you, but sometimes blogging makes me want to shop. Seeing new and shiny things on other bloggers all the time can have a tendency to make an already bursting closet seem less than sufficient. When I get into this state of mind, it feels like it would be so much easier to put something together when a piece is "fresh".

I try my best to refrain from succumbing to this feeling for numerous reasons, but in any case I've taken some re-styled pieces from the blog and posted them into one consolidated album. If you're anything like me, hopefully this will encourage you to be a little more inventive about the way you re-wear things in your wardrobe instead of taking the easy way out and constantly getting new pieces.

Do you ever feel like this? I would love to hear some thoughts.
Feel free to hop on over to my Facebook page and check it the album!

Guilty! I do shop way more, but I've found myself being very creative and organized of my shopping so think I'm at least trying to be a smart shopper, having so many options of course makes you lazy and not creative, but once I get into the "how will I wear it different" mood I've surprised myself, don't think I could ever stop shopping but should definitely be more creative! Love you you've styled the dress, totally different and both super cute!

I want to buy new stuff all the time and blogging makes it even worse! But my closet is more than filled and I too, should wear the pieces that are in it. Lately, I've been trying to use the pieces that I already have and only to buy basics that are really needed.

This is a really great post. :) It goes a long way to see how altering small details changes the whole look of an outfit.

I do a little more shopping now that I read fashion blogs, but there are actually "life controls" in place to keep me from going buck wild. Namely, I work full time in a hospital, so my classes/days off are the only time I really have to wear my own clothes. It keeps my desire tempered. I also do closet sweeps once every six months. If I find something I haven't worn in almost a year, I donate it, and then I bar myself from buying anything similar for two months as a lesson of discipline in impulse buying.

Yes seeing blogs (especially yours!) makes me want to shop!! But I've been good, the actual act of shopping and searching for sizes deters me ;) i really love that dress on you Jen! You look so beautiful!

I am 100% with you Jen...it is tough to constantly be looking at blogs and through magazines and not want to just shop shop shop, but it is so important to realize that many bloggers face this same dilemma...and that is why I love this post, so genious! And I think that true style is shown by the ability to re-style a piece time and again...loved seeing all of your re-mixed pieces!
Have a wonderful long weekend!

Love the album! And of course, we all feel pressure to get something new just so we have the ability to "debut" it on the blog. I think reworking is really important - like you said, I don't even have enough room in my closet as it is and I certainly don't have a backstock of money to just blow on new clothes all the time. Thanks for the restyling-encouragement my love!

I love how different these two looks are! I love the idea of purchasing a really great dress and wearing it a multitude of different ways rather than buying lots of cheap clothing.

I'm already a shopaholic, but I agree that blogging can be enabling. That's why I like challenges like the 30x30 Remix (not that I've actually done it, HAHA) to get ideas for how people remix their clothes.

ALL.THE.TIME... ever since I've become a blogger! I do my best so that it doesn't get out of control, but sometimes it's really tough not to go and grab something new only to take a few pictures for the blog...
Thanks a lot for this post, good to know we all share the same "blogging dilemmas"... :o)

Oh my gosh, tell me about it. I always want to get something new, but lately I've been trying to justify everything. Do I want it because others have it or because it's something that I know I'll use all the time?

I identify so much with this post, Jen! The more I blog, the more I have the desire to shop for new things to wear for the blog... I'm glad I'm not the only one :) I've made it my mission to do nothing but restyle for the next three to four weeks. We'll see how it goes!

I love that dress. I probably said that before in one of your other posts...But it's a GREAT dress! I'm with you! I always try and pair an older item with a new one or re-work it with something else in my closet. You'd be surprised at the number of combinations you come up with.

I LOVED that album on FB, definitely reminds me that I need to re-wear a lot of my older pieces in my closet. I'm always buying new clothes and not wearing my old pieces :(

*hand up in air* I have noticed that my closet has filled out a lot more in the last year since I've been reading more style blogs. Thanks for the reminder to restyle what I have -- cost per wear, right?

by Canadianpetite on September 3, 2011 at 1:32 PM. #

I totally hear ya! I must admit I've purchased a few items because I've seen other bloggers wear them. Before I buy it, however, I try and think up a number of possible outfits so I know I will get enough "wear" out of the clothing :)

seriously in agreement about the "makes me wanna shop" thing Jen! another reason i recently dumped a ton of things out of my own closet to make a bit of room for a few selects this Fall. you and so many other girls are constantly giving me ideas and providing new shops to check out. it's a love/hate thing cos my heart says YES but my pocketbook always seems to slap my hand when i reach into it ; )

re-styling definitely helps out more than my pocket jingly though. one of my fave things is having a friend or even Sean go into my closet and choose something for me. it's not at all what i'd have ever put together and i like being able to embody something their eyes see instead of mine.

very thought provoking and engaging article. thanks for sharing this lades! xoox ♥
